Itinerary Highlight for 5 days Mount Kenya Hike Chogoria Route

Day 1: Nairobi – Transfer to Mt Kenya Bandas

Day 2: Mt Kenya Bandas – Lake Ellis Campsite ( 3,600m)

Day 3: Lake Ellis – Minto`s Camp

Day 4: Minto`s – Pt Lenana ( 4,985m)

Day 5: Old Moses camp – Nairobi-

Day By Day Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi- Mt Kenya Bandas (2,900m)

Leave Nairobi at 0800hrs, after breakfast,  for Mount Kenya Banadas. You will be driven through the green landscape of Kikuyu to Nanyuki, then  reach Chogoria town for lunch.

Proceed with your 4×4 road trip base of bamboo forest, where trekking starts. Start your 10km trek through the thick bamboo forest to Mt Kenya Bandas for dinner and an overnight.

Day 2: Mt Kenya Bandas – Lake Ellis Campsite ( 3,600m)

Following your early morning breakfast, ascend  up the mountain at a nice and easy level . You will trek for alittle longer period via Lake Ellis, which offers  breathtaking views of Mugi, Ithanguni and the Giants Billiards Table, then follow the river near road head for about 3 km. The foreground and flora is incredibly magnificent.

Stop for a lunch  break on the banks of a stream, followed by proceeding to the left hand hillside so as to access Lake Ellis Campsite at about 3,600m for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Lake Ellis – Minto`s Camp. ( 4,200m)

For a 4 hours walk on this day, you will set off early enough to follow up the mountain ridge. You will take 3 hors trekking and finally connect to the  normal chogoria trackb at a possible altitude of 4,100m.

Enroute, you will enjoy magnificient views over the gorges Valley, then proceed towards the Ithanguni and the Northern Moorlands.

Stop for a lunch break at a small stream crossing, before heading for a further 60 minutes’  walk   to the Mintos Hut area at 4200m wherte you will have dinner and an overnight.

You can opt to spend your entire afternoon hours at the camp, or rather take  a 10 minute walk to the “Temple” which is worth the effort.  It is usually a 150 meters vertical cliff that gets its name from the point visitors always adopt when looking over the edge.

All hikers on this day are advised to go to bed early enough in preparation of the next day trek.

Day 4: Minto`s – Pt Lenana ( 4,985m)- Old Moses camp.

At 3:00am before the break of dawn, set off for a 3 hours hike topoint Lenana (4985m), where you reach perfect time to watch the African sunrise.

Thereafter, slope down to Shipton camp for breakfast, and embark on another

5-hour descent via Mackinder`s valley to the Old Moses camp (3,300m). The down is gentle and provide enough time to enjoy breathtaking scenery which includes the moorlands before arriving at  the camp.

Day 5: Old Moses camp – Nairobi.

After breakfast early in the morning, descend down to Sirimon park gate where you will meet up with the driver guide, who will return you to Nairobi.
