Rwenzori Mountains National Park

The park has Africa’s third highest mountain peak and many waterfalls, lakes, snow fields and glaciers. The Rwenzori mountains are also known as mountains of the moon.

Rwenzori mountains national park protects the highest parts of the 120km long and 65 wide. The park hosts 70 mammals like elephants, bushbucks and antelopes and 217 bird species like including Albertine rift endemics like the Ruwenzori turaco, handsome francolin, slender billed starling, golden winged sunbird, Rwenzori bantis, white stared robin, etc. not forgetting the primates, as well as some of the world’s rarest vegetation.

There are five distinct vegetation zones which change according to changes in altitude. The Rwenzori Mountains are a world class hiking and mountaineering destination.

The Bakonzo villages near the park also offer nature walks, homestead visits and home cultural performances with accommodation including a home cooked local cuisine.the park has trekking and climbing routes
